FAQ
Why EuroZig when there is already ZSF?
EuroZig is focused on nurturing a growing Zig ecosystem within the EU by leveraging opportunities exclusively available to European non-profit organizations (e.g. EU-only grants).
Additionally, as a German non-profit organization, EuroZig can act as the fiscal host for initiatives across europe such as conferences, workshops and Zig Day events.
At the moment of writing, EuroZig is planned to become the fiscal host for Zigtoberfest starting from 2027.
What is EuroZig’s relationship to ZSF?
EuroZig is not directly affiliated with Zig Software Foundation, meaning that donating to one organization will not make the funds available to the other.
Both organizations share a compatible mission, albeit EuroZig focuses its efforts on the European Union.
Most notably, funds donated to ZSF will directly go towards paying core team members to work on Zig, while donations to EuroZig will go towards growing the Zig community within the EU, mainly though social events and workshops.
Can my donations to EuroZig be tax-deductible?
Tax-deducibility of donations can have complex interactions depending on your fiscal status. We invite you to double check with an accredited accountant or comparable professional to know precisely whether you can deduct donations to non-profit organizations.
That said, as a broad, non-authoritative answer:
- German taxpayers who donate directly to EuroZig should be able to deduct their donations.
- European taxpayers who donate via Giving Europe should be able to deduct their donations.
- Non-European taxpayers should generally not expect to be able to deduct their donations.
